National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan Announced as Orchestra-in-Residence for Eurasian Stars 2026

Eurasian Stars 2026 is proud to announce the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan as its official Orchestra-in-Residence, bringing one of Central Asia’s most distinguished musical institutions to the heart of the festival.

Founded in 1937, the orchestra has played a central role in the cultural life of Uzbekistan for nearly nine decades. Throughout its rich history, it has been led by a succession of notable conductors, including N. Gorchakov, Alexey Kozlovsky, Narimon Alimov, Zakhid Khaknazarov, and other prominent musical figures who helped shape its artistic identity.

The ensemble has long been recognised for its dedication to performing the symphonic works of Uzbek composers, while also maintaining a broad international repertoire that spans the masterpieces of world music. This dual mission has made the orchestra an important ambassador of national culture as well as a versatile symphonic force on the international stage.

The orchestra has achieved significant distinction over the decades, including major tours throughout the republics of the former Soviet Union and victory at the 1968 competition for symphony orchestras of the Union republics. In 1986, it was awarded the honorary title of Honoured Collective of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Its international collaborations have included projects with musicians and ensembles from the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and Thailand, reflecting its global outlook and artistic openness. Among notable performances was a landmark 1998 concert marking the centenary of George Gershwin, organised in cooperation with the United States Embassy in Uzbekistan.

Today, under the artistic leadership of People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Ismoil Jalilov and conductor Alibek Kabdurakhmanov, the orchestra continues to uphold its legacy while embracing new artistic horizons.

As Orchestra-in-Residence for Eurasian Stars 2026, the National Symphony Orchestra of Uzbekistan will play a central role in the festival’s concerts and gala events, promising audiences performances of excellence, depth, and cultural distinction.
